We are delighted to again be hosting this event in conjunction with HR Services for Schools, a traded service of Birmingham City Council.
Open to all schools in Birmingham and surrounding areas, this one-day event promises to provide Headteachers, Business Managers and Senior Leaders with an interesting and informative day full of new updates and ideas to take back into their school settings.
The event this year will take place in the excellent, new facilities of the Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre, Birmingham and will include a Conference with Nick Saunders, “The Family Man”, as keynote speaker, a range of workshops, a Workforce Planning showcase with the HR Services for Schools ER Consultants and an exhibition where more than 30 education suppliers will be displaying their latest products and services.
The cost per delegate including lunch, refreshments throughout the day and onsite parking is £99.00 and delegates are requested to please register and select their two workshops below. Delegates will be invoiced directly by Birmingham City Council after registration on this site.

The following workshops will be running and can be selected on the booking form.
1A. Leading a diverse workforce through continuous change
Fiona Anderson, Founder of valuingYOU and My Change Expert
In today’s fast paced and complex world, change is the only constant. Yet how much time do you have to reflect on change, learn from it and apply your learning?
Join this workshop to:
- Reflect on your leadership and management of significant change
- Share with and learn from each other’s successes
- Identify reactions to change and the support that may be needed
- Difficult or different? Explore and understand our differences to create an inclusive approach to change
- Take your learning back to work and apply it immediately
1B. To dismiss, or not to dismiss?
Birmingham City’s Council’s Legal Team
Join Birmingham City’s Council’s Legal team to discuss a few of the most common and yet challenging employee related issues that schools have to deal with. Attendees will have the benefit of input from experienced Solicitors as the team consider how to address the risks and challenges ‘to dismiss, or not to dismiss’ employees in various circumstances.
This workshop will cover:
- What is dismissal?
- What is a fair dismissal?
- Reasonableness of the dismissal
- Remedies going forwards
2A. Managing Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace
Mike Jeffries, Training Manager, Birmingham Mind
Mind is a the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. Founded in 1946 as the National Association for Mental Health, it celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016. Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf. It also works to raise public awareness and understanding of issues relating to mental health.
This one hour session is both interactive and practical and includes:
- Focus on managing stress.
- Early warning signs/Risk factors.
- How can we start the conversation about someone’s mental health?
- How can we stay well?
- What can help?
2B. Talking Menopause in the workplace
Sarah Davies & Lynda Bailey, Founders, Talking Menopause
Talking Menopause have worked with a large number of organisations including private and public sector and understand the cultural challenge menopause brings to the workplace. It’s not just about hot flushes. This workshop will provide a safe place to talk about menopause and find a solution for whether you are a menopausal woman, partner, manager, boss or colleague.
The Talking Menopause Workshop includes:
