The Leeds for Learning 2022 Mathematics Conference will focus on representation and structure again and is open to education professionals from all across the country who wish to expand their expertise in teaching and leading a maths curriculum.
Together with Leeds for Learning, we are proud to be welcoming the following keynote and workshop presenters :
- Richard Perring – Assistant Director for Secondary at the NCETM and co-author of DfE KS3 maths guidance
- Amy How – Author, Presenter, Primary Maths Specialist, SLE and University Professor
- Chris Smith – Mathematics Teacher and Scottish Teacher of the Year 2018
- Jonathan Hall – Specialist in Mathematics Education and Founder of FormTimeIdeas.com and MathsBot.com
- Dr Katie Chicot – CEO of MathsWorldUK and Senior Lecturer, Staff tutor in Mathematics and Statistics at the Open University
The keynote sessions will address structure and fluency, representations through the key stages and how to engage all pupils in a challenging maths curriculum.

Alongside the Conference there will be an exhibition of education suppliers and those companies wishing to exhibit at this popular event should kindly contact us as soon as possible as space is limited at the venue and stands can only be offered on a first come, first served basis.

The cost per delegate is £170. Additional places will be charged at a discounted rate of £85.
Schools who have a Primary Maths Package or Leading Learning Partnership have one prepaid place at this event with subsequent places available at £85.
Schools will be invoiced directly from Leeds City Council.
Event Speakers

Amy How
Amy is a Canadian who moved to the UK to pursue her dream of spreading the word globally on using the rekenrek. She has been a Primary teacher for 17 years in Canada as well as at an International school in the Netherlands. She has a Masters degree in Education and has taught Bachelor of Education maths courses at Acadia University. Amy is an author, presenter, primary maths specialist, SLE and university professor. She has an infectious passion and enthusiasm for teaching and will keep you engaged and entertained throughout the presentation.
Chris Smith
Chris Smith teaches Maths in Kilmarnock and tweets as @aap03102. In 2018, Chris became the Scottish Teacher of the Year. In 2019, with his wife and kids, Chris won the BBC show "Family Brain Games" hosted by Dara O Briain. In 2020, in response to the COVID pandemic, Chris churned out 50 "Corona Conundrum" puzzle videos. Things weren't that exciting in 2021- Chris just got on with his usual antics (singing about Maths, creatively celebrating PiDay and writing a weekly Maths newsletter for over 4500 subscribers). Chris is delighted to be delivering a keynote at this conference in 2022.
Dr Katie Chicot
Katie, is the CEO of MathsWorldUK whose aim is to create the UK’s first Mathematics Discovery Centre. As part of this journey, in Oct 2021, the charity established MathsCity, a hands-on maths centre in Trinity Leeds shopping centre. Alongside this Katie is a Senior Lecturer, Staff tutor in Mathematics and Statistics at the Open University. This involves working with students, tutors and creating materials. Both roles involve mathematics outreach including co-creating the series Patterns of life for the Open University’s YouTube channel, captaining the OU’s team on BBC2’s Beat the Brain, and co-creation of maths apps Perplex and Code Break.
Jonathan Hall
Jonny has vast experience in mathematics teaching having taught secondary maths for over 13 years and counting. A former head of department, he is currently the lead practitioner at Leeds City Academy where he inspires students to get excited about learning mathematics. Jonny has also recently joined the Leading Learning Partnership team as a teaching and learning specialist. Having a keen interest in the development of online resources to advance learning, he created the StudyMaths and FlashMaths websites, and later founded the popular online tutor resources FormTimeIdeas.com. His latest project is the MathsBot.com website, where he offers the creation of virtual manipulatives and teaching tools to use in the classroom.
