Meeting the needs of all through assessment and adaptive teaching

The Leeds for Learning 2023 Mathematics Conference will focus on “Meeting the needs of all through assessment and adaptive teaching”. The programme includes cross-phase content from the early years through to key stage 4, and will support teachers in areas such as tackling misconceptions, supporting pupils with SEND, and the features of maths teaching and assessment that enable successful progression at every key stage.

Alongside the Conference there will be an exhibition of education suppliers and those companies wishing to exhibit at this popular event should kindly contact us as soon as possible as space is limited at the venue and stands can only be offered on a first come, first served basis.

The cost per Primary delegate is £210 for those from schools that have bought a 3, 5 day or 10 day learning improvement support package and £260 for those from non-support package schools and non-Leeds schools. Additional full day delegate places from the same school is £105 learning improvement support package and £130 non support package schools.

Secondary Leading Learning Partnership (LLP) schools have one prepaid place at this event and will be charged at the discounted rate of £105 for all additional delegate places.  Secondary non-LLP and non-Leeds schools will be charged £260 per delegate and £130 for all additional places from the same school.

Schools will be invoiced directly from Leeds City Council.

Event Speakers

Debbie Morgan

Debbie Morgan

Debbie is Director of Primary Mathematics at the NCETM. She has previous experience as, Headteacher, Mathematics Advisor and Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education. Her current responsibilities include providing advice and expertise to the Department for Education regarding the development and implementation of mathematics policy across England.  She has been the mathematics consultant on the BAFTA award winning BBC programme ‘Numberblocks’ since its creation and regularly receives requests to speak at conferences across the country. In 2020 Debbie was awarded a CBE for services to education in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Mike Askew

Mike Askew

Mike has been a teacher since 1978 and now works in teacher professional development. Mike is a Visiting Professor at The University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, having been Distinguished Professor there. He has also been a Professor Monash University, Melbourne and at King’s College, London University. He was a Director of BEAM Education, specialising in publishing support materials and professional development for primary mathematics. Mike has worked around the world and is always delighted by the joy that learners, young and old, can find in mathematical activity. He is interested in seeing mathematics differently and believes that mathematical activity can be engaging and enjoyable for all learners. Mike is keen on community building in mathematics classrooms and exploring how cooperative activity supports individual learning, for example exploring how games and techniques from improvisational drama can be adapted to maths to support community building.
Robert Wilne

Robert Wilne

Robert Wilne is the Principal of Leeds Mathematics School. He has over 25 years’ experience teaching mathematics and training, developing and coaching maths teachers. Most recently he was CEO of MESME (www.mesme.org), a registered education charity whose purpose is to support high-attaining mathematicians, especially students from disadvantaged backgrounds, throughout secondary school and university: “from KS3 to PhD”. Before this, Robert was Lead Teacher of Outreach at King’s College London Maths School, where he designed, coordinated and taught a range of student enrichment and teacher CPD programmes, as well as teaching KS5 classes. Robert was the founding headteacher of the London Academy of Excellence, which opened in 2012. In 2014, LAE’s pioneering cohort achieved the best A-level results in the country of all state-funded sixth forms. After LAE, Robert, as Director of Secondary at the National Centre of Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics, led national and international programmes researching maths education. He has also been a maths advisor for three large multi-academy trusts; Teaching for Mastery co-Lead for the London SE Plus Maths Hub; and Series Editor for two maths curriculum programmes published by Oxford University Press: “Discovering Mathematics” (for KS3) and “MathsBeat” (for KS1 and 2).
