Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) for All Virtual Conference

A conference for teachers, senior leaders and governors from any school or SEND setting on how to support all children and young people with Relationships Education (RE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) through exploring resources, good practice and current advice and guidance.
This Conference, being hosted by the Leeds City Council Health and Wellbeing Service, will support schools and settings to create inclusive, accessible and needs-led RSE for all learners, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. The conference would also be suitable for local authority staff and clinical staff who are engaged with schools and settings.
The day will include both live and recorded keynote presentations, workshops and case studies for both mainstream and special settings with these being delivered by Rachael Baker and colleagues of the Sex Ed Forum, Andi Cope of Spectrum Community Health, colleagues from Manchester and Leeds Healthy Schools Programmes, Jamie Darby of East SILC and others. There will also be opportunity on the day to network with peers.
The conference will be recorded on the day to enable delegates to access resources and videos in their own time post event. If you are only able to join us for part of the day, or wish to access the conference at a time that better suits you, please book a place as normal – bookings will also remain open for two weeks post event.
Delegate Charges for this event :
Schools with any Health and Wellbeing Service SLA £25 per delegate.
Non SLA Schools £75 per delegate.
Schools will be invoiced directly from Leeds City Council following registration on this site.
Event Speakers
-Rachael Baker
Senior Relationships and Sex Education Specialist, Sex Education Forum. Rachael is a qualified teacher and specialist in working with learners with unique and complex needs, Rachael has much experience of working in a variety of education settings, including mainstream schools, multi-faith school, ESBD and SEMH settings, Pupil Referral Units, and Special Schools, and has held the post of PSHE Co-Ordinator and RSE subject lead. Her most recent teaching post was Nurture Base tutor for a form of 16-19 year olds with moderate learning difficulties. Rachael recently completed the MA Education at Birmingham City University, focusing on inclusion in education for learners with ASC. Since joining Sex Education Forum in September 2019, Rachael has spoken at national conferences, including DfE Early Adopter conferences, worked with a range of schools, local authorities and central government, and has been recently published in Times Education Supplement and SecEd magazine. Rachael’s professional objective is to support professionals with quality CPD to enable schools and teachers to deliver inclusive, age appropriate and consistent RSE to all learners.
Andi Cope
Leads Spectrum Community health’s Relationships & Sex Education provision and has been working in Sexual Health since 2008. She is passionate about the personal, social and health education of young people, and creating innovative resources that address sensitive topics in an interactive and inclusive way. Andi has a background in creative arts and youth and community work, and is also a doctoral student focusing on RSE policy and practice. Materials developed by Andi for a prison-based RSE programme were awarded the Pamela Sheridan Sex and Relationship Award in 2015, and in 2016 her resources for the Learning Disability RSE Programme were shortlisted for the HSJ Patient Safety Award. Andi works closely with young people as the co-producers of the RSE materials and supports schools and youth services to deliver RSE in line with Government guidance.
Cat Bowers
RSE Health Improvement Practitioner for Manchester Healthy Schools and a qualified Secondary School Teacher and PSHE lead. Cat has worked alongside many schools, parents and faith communities to support cohesion and inclusion amongst a diverse inner city context. Representing equality, diversity and acceptance is at the heart of Cat’s practice and much of the work she does is aims to promote awareness and inclusion of LGBT+ communities. Cat delivers staff training, school support and designs curriculum resources that focus on inclusion and acceptance to promote awareness and understanding of gender, sexuality and the need for RSE to meet the needs of all.
Helen Lord (BSc. (Hons), PGCE)
Personal, Social Health and Economics Education (PSHE education) and Healthy Schools Consultant for the Health and Wellbeing Service in Leeds. Helen has been a consultant for 12 years. Before joining the service, Helen was a primary school teacher and the PSHE & Healthy Schools Coordinator in an ‘outstanding’ school for 5 years. Helen designs and facilitates PSHE training as well as offering individualised training, advice, resources and support in all types of schools and settings across Leeds and beyond. Helen has been instrumental in redesigning and aligning Healthy Schools with Ofsted through the development of an online, Healthy Schools’ revalidation and school improvement tool, the ‘School Health Check’.
Jamie Darby
Post 16 Phase Leader, Senior Teaching & Learning Manager, East SILC. Jamie is Head of a SEND Post 16 set across two sites at East SILC in Leeds. He has worked in SEND as a teacher for the past 22 years across a range of settings in West Yorkshire. The focus of East SILC's Post 16 is to best prepare learners for their own individual experience of adulthood, and so the curriculum on offer is led by the students wherever possible.
