We are delighted to again be partnering the London Borough of Ealing and assisting them with the provision of their 2021 Annual School Business Managers Conference and Exhibition.

 

This year’s event will now be held virtually and with top keynote presentations and a comprehensive exhibition of education suppliers, the conference promises to provide delegates with an exciting day full of techniques, ideas and information to take back to their schools.  All School Business Managers from across the country are welcome to attend.

 

Jenny Garrett, Justin Smith, Dai Durbridge, Rory McCormack, Gary Henderson and other speakers from the Department for Education, Zenergi, Reed, Operoo and Evolve Teachers will be delivering presentations with a full programme available below.

 

Delegate registration is now open below and the charge per delegate is £69.00 + VAT for Ealing SBM Membership Schools and £99.00 + VAT for all other schools.

Catherine is a former School Business Manager with over 24 years’ experience of working in a Special Needs Primary School and was an associate governor at the school. Now working for the Department for Education’s Schools Commercial Team as a Schools Engagement Lead. The team’s role is to support delivery of the Schools’ Buying Strategy.

Dai is based in Browne Jacobson’s Manchester office and heads up the firm’s education team in the North West. He advises schools, academies and colleges on frontline education matters, including school admissions and exclusions, parental complaints, disqualification from childcare settings and GDPR. He is also a leading expert on safeguarding in education, chairing and speaking at numerous national conferences and writing articles and providing comment for the sector and national press. From supporting schools with allegations made against staff, peer on peer abuse and student mental health issues, to serious case reviews and Ofsted inspections Dai has been on hand to help schools with the full range of safeguarding challenges.

Gary is an EdTech and IT professional with over 20 years’ experience, initially as a trained secondary school teacher in the UK before periods working in Further Education, international schools in the UAE and more recently in his current role as Director of IT at a large UK Independent School. Leading the IT Services Team, his focus is on providing technology services which enable student learning, while cyber security, data privacy, online safety and ethics in relation to technology use are subjects Gary is keenly interested in and issues he believes need to be more openly discussed with students in schools. Gary is a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (2016-2021) plus is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional.

Following a career spent in private sector business development and marketing, Justin moved into the education sector over 20 years ago and has worked as a senior leader in 3 large secondary schools in Suffolk and Norfolk. In 2017 Justin established his own business, Chameleon Training and Consultancy, designed to provide specialist marketing, income generation and bid writing services to the education sector. A vastly experienced bid writer, Justin has secured over £7 million in additional income for schools, from a variety of sources including conventional grants and trust funds, commercial sponsorship and donations. Chameleon Training and Consultancy has developed a suite of practical and innovative products, services and masterclasses to support school leaders nationally, from stand-alone primary schools to large multi-academy trusts. Rory is an experienced educationalist; he has been a local Headteacher for 28 years and he is also a school Governor. Since retiring he has turned his expertise to training and consultancy supporting School Leaders and Governors in several Boroughs.

Stephen Lester - Institute of School Business Leadership

Appointed an MBE for services to education in 2018, Stephen is Chair of both ISBL Trustees and Cumbria Association of School Business and Administration, a School Resource Management Advisor, a member of the ESFA Academies Finance and Assurance Steering Group, leading on annual review of the Academies Financial Handbook, and has recently, in 2020, retired as Chief Operating Officer at West Lakes Multi Academy Trust, Egremont, Cumbria. He believes in cooperative, collaborative leadership and team working to deliver outstanding outcomes, team and individual development. Following a successful career in Food and Agriculture, he is now an experienced and effective School Business Professional who has been involved in leadership of conversion to Academy status, the establishment and expansion of a multi-academy trust, leadership of local SBL groups, mentoring of CSBM and DSBM candidates and contributing to the SRMA program including Academy and Local Authority deployments, induction, assessment, quality assurance and mentoring. He tries to keep physically active through running (especially fell running), hill walking and cycling and also enjoys reading and gardening.
